Choosing an overhead launch monitor

Overhead units are what we recommend for most dedicated rooms and every commercial bay. Once mounted and calibrated they disappear into the ceiling, both right and left handers hit from the same spot, and there is nothing on the floor to knock over or trip on. Because they track the ball from directly above, they need the least room depth of any launch monitor type.

The install is permanent, so the room has to fit the unit. Each model specifies a mounting height range and a position relative to the ball. Check your ceiling height against the spec before buying, and plan a power and data run to the mount point.

Frequently asked questions

Most overhead units mount between 9 and 10.5 feet. That is also the height you need to swing a driver safely, so if the room passes the driver test it usually passes the mounting test.

This is the reason to go overhead. Hit from the same mat, no repositioning, and the software switches with a click.

Handy owners do. It involves a ceiling bracket, a level, cabling and a calibration routine. We include setup guidance, and in Ontario our parent company Swing Stations can install it as part of a build.
