Choosing an impact screen

The screen does two jobs at once: absorb a golf ball at 150 mph without excessive bounce-back or noise, and display your projector’s picture cleanly. Heavier multi-layer screens are quieter and safer with less bounce-back; tighter, smoother weaves give a sharper picture. Premium screens do both.

Size the screen to the enclosure opening, and leave a few inches of overlap on each side for tensioning. If the room doubles as a home theatre, consider a drop-down movie screen in front of it, as covered in our home theatre guide.

Frequently asked questions

Match your enclosure opening (or the frame you are building) and choose the aspect ratio that fits the room: 4:3 for taller, narrower rooms and 16:9 or 16:10 for wider ones. Made-to-measure screens are available for anything in between.

Years for a home bay, depending on how much you hit. The first thing to fade is the picture in the centre where most balls land. Rotating the screen top to bottom once a year spreads the wear.

Ball marks are normal, especially from dirty or marked balls. Keep a dedicated set of clean simulator balls and wipe the screen with a damp cloth occasionally.
