Why RCT balls for radar
Doppler radar needs to watch the ball rotate to measure spin, and indoors there simply is not enough flight to do it properly. The old workaround was a metallic sticker you had to align toward the unit before every shot, which slows you down, falls off at 150 mph, and ends up stuck to your impact screen or jammed in a wedge groove.
RCT stands for Radar Capture Technology. Titleist buried the reflective marker inside the ball, so there is nothing to apply and nothing to aim. Drop it down, hit it, get real measured spin instead of an estimate. It is the same Pro V1 in every other respect and USGA conforming, so you can play it outdoors too.
Two things worth knowing
- They are not cheap.
- Most radar units have a specific RCT ball setting in their software. Turn it on; a lot of “no read” complaints are just that toggle sitting off.
Also available as Pro V1x RCT for higher-flight, higher-spin players.
